CrossFit Dodgeball Tournament

DSC_0069

We had CrossFit Affiliates and Law Enforcement from all over Southern California. Three Law Enforcement teams were repeat players from the Western States Police & Fire Games Tournament. The day started off with Round Robin play to see who would be seated #1. Two games going on at once, battling to gain valuable points toward the Round Robin points standing. When the smoke had cleared, it was Ballz Deep who had captured the #1 seed and the Hispanic Panic capturing the #2 seed.

This was our first ever Double Elimination Tournament and it went well. It gave teams a second chance if they got beat in the early rounds of the tournament. The tournament started with Ballz Deep -vs- The Burpees (CrossFit Westlake Village) and Team Rios (CrossFit Simi Valley) -vs- The Crushers. Ballz Deep sent the Burpees to the floor and Team Rios was Crushed by the Crushers. Next it was Team Awesome (CrossFit Simi Valley) -vs- Balls of Fury and Target Practice -vs- Hispanic Panic (CrossFit Westlake Village). Balls of Fury was totally awesome against Team Awesome and the Hispanic panic took target practice on Team Target Practice.

The first round was over and it had sent 4 teams packing to the losers bracket. In the losers bracket The Burpees faced off against Team Rios and Team Awesome -vs- Target Practice. Team Rios sent the Burpees to do Burpees and Team Awseome sent Target Practice back to the range. We then moved back to the winners bracket and saw Ballz Deep -vs- the Crushers and Balls of Fury -vs- Hispanci panic. No suprises here, the #1 seed Ballz Deep and #2 seed Hispanic Panic moved on easily to face off in the next round. The Crushers and Balls of Fury dropped down to the losers bracket to face of with Team Rios and Team Awesome. Balls of Fury defeated Team Rios and Team Awesome defeated The Crushers. We moved back up to the winners bracket and anxiously awaited the two undefeated teams in the tournament go against each other. Ballz Deep took game one and Hispanic Panic took game two. Everyone watched the rubber match to see who would go into the finals. After the call, "hands on the wall....dodgeball", we saw Ballz Deep go deep into their arsenal of tricks and drop the Hispanic Panic down to the losers bracket. Then it was time to see who would move on in the losers bracket to face off against the #2 seed Hispanic Panic. We watched Balls of Fury and Team Awesome go against each other in an epic battle, but after all had ended Team Awesome were just too awesome for Balls of Fury. That set up an intense loser bracket finals to see who would face off to battle the undefeated Ballz Deep. Team Awesome went toe to toe with the Hispanic Panic but after three games, it was the Hispanic Panic moving into the finals for a re-match against Ballz Deep.

Here we are in the finals with the #1 -vs- #2 seed going head to head again. The Hispanic Panic needed 3 wins to capture the tournament and Ballz Deep only needed two wins, since they were undefeated. The Hispanic Panic took the first game easily and got the crowd excited. Game two saw Ballz Deep go deep again and put a stop to the Hispanic Panic to clain game two. The Hispanic Panic need a win to stay alive and all Ballz Deep needed was one more win to claim victory. The call was made to start the game and the Hispanic Panic was gunned down in record time to give Ballz Deep the victory and the Title of Champions.

This was Ballz Deep 7th tournament and they had reached the finals many times before but never had taken home the trophy, NOT TODAY! They are our 2009 CrossFit FAST Dodgeball Tournament Champions!!!

We want to say THANK YOU to all who participated, volunteered or just watched. It was  a Great Day and we look forward to seeing you all again in October for our Fall Tournament.

Memorial Day Dodgeball Tournament

It was a Great turnout and the action was Blazing. We started off with the Last Man Standing Competition where all competitors had a free for all. Each player was dunking and dodging for the title of LAST MAN STANDING. It was tough competition but as each player was eliminated one by one, it ended with one player on each side left throwing heat as they both were exhausted. It finally ended with one of the Dodgers taking home the title.

As the main tournament began, each team played round robin play to see who would gain the top seed

in the tournament. As each team played the best 2 out of 3 games one team emerged as the number

one top seed, this team was The Hitmen from Moorpark High School. Once the teams had been seeded

and play began, we began a single elimination tournament with the best 3 out of 5 games, Winner moves

on, loser goes home. Each team played their hearts out and slowly moved towards the Semi-Finals.

TheFinal Four teams were Ballz Deep -vs- The Pit Meisters and Purple People Eaters -vs - The Dodgers.

After Ballz Deep had dominated in the earlier rounds, they were no match for The Pit Meisters and The

Pit Meisters were heading to the Finals. In the other Semi-Finals, we saw the Moorpark High School

Team, The Purple People Eaters defeat The Dodgers in a very close match and took their place in the

Finals against The Pit Meisters. Before the Final match, The Dodgers and Ballz Deep played for 3rd &

4th place. Ballz Deep was out gunned and The Dodgers captured the Bronze Medal and took third place

in the tournament.

The Finals were set and it was time to see who would take home the Southern California Dodgeball

Association Memorial Day Tournament Trophy. The scrappy crew from The Pit in Malibu hung in their

before finally giving in to the speed and fire power of The Purple People Eaters. Team Captain, Cory Court

of The Purple People Eaters stood tall and proud after his team knocked out each team one by one to

earn their 2nd DodgeBall Title and their first SoCalDodgeBall Championship. After receiving their trophies

the team called out a challenge to last years champion White Tees...see you at the next tournament.
